We all know there are things we should do every week (*cough cough* work out *cough cough*) that sometimes slip by. I get it. We’re all human, and some weeks are even busier than others. But there are a few things you should be doing every week that will make your life easier / cleaner / better / smoother / etc. And they’re not too time-consuming or labor-intensive, either – promise!
WASH YOUR MAKEUP BRUSHES
This one is always a no-brainer when you think about it, but do you really wash your makeup brushes every week? And is your face always 100% clean when you apply your makeup in a haste every morning? (These are rhetorical questions, so no judgment.) I know it’s tough to take a few minutes away from your fun-filled weekend to clean your brushes, but it makes a world of difference for your skin and the way your makeup wears throughout the week, especially for oilier-skinned ladies out there. My favorite way to make myself wash my brushes is to finish the last 15 minutes of whatever we’re watching on Netflix while I’m cleaning, so when I’m done with the episode, I’m done with the tedium, too!
BACK UP YOUR MEDIA
Guys, seriously, back up your media. Videos, photos, songs, documents, messages, emails – you get it. It’s got to be backed up to the cloud, a USB, an external hard drive, whatever your heart desires. No one wants to be Carrie Bradshaw with the sad Mac (love all my SATC girls who get this one!), but it happens, and the you can give yourself peace of mind knowing your files are safe and sound and ready to go whenever you need them.
WHIP UP HEALTHY SNACKS
I’m a huge proponent of snacking at work and appropriately, I prefer to give myself some yummy snacks that keep me powering through my 3:00 p.m. slump with ease. But it’s definitely a challenge to stay healthy and be creative with my menu, especially mid-week, so I try to think up a few snacks that will appeal to me all week and then prepare them so I can grab and go throughout the week. Some of my favorites are: unsalted almonds and dark chocolate chips, skinny buffalo dip and celery or rainbow carrots, white cheddar popcorn, or a cup of hot tea. One of my indulgent snacks, especially when it’s cold and blustery out, is some killer hot cocoa – add a splash of coffee creamer and you will feel (almost) as good as when you had your first cup of Starbucks earlier that morning.
MAKE A MONDAY PLAYLIST
Music is a powerful mood booster and it’s capable of some crazy things, including: getting you out of bed, jazzing up your shower and getting-ready routine, making your commute more fun, and knocking out your to-do list with ease. Thus, it’s an awesome idea to gather up your favorite songs, put them in an awesome playlist, and get them ready for your Monday morning so you can crush it from the time you wake up to the moment you get home and get settled in your sweatpants.
CHANGE YOUR WALLPAPER
Another powerful mood booster: your desktop / phone wallpaper. I feel like I’m changing mine all the time, and it helps me stay focused, happy, and feeling like I can conquer anything. Candidly Keri’s website is hands down my favorite place to find #girlboss wallpapers that make me feel like a true #goaldigger. Seriously, go check out her stuff! The point is: take a few minutes for yourself to think about what headspace you want to be in for the week, find a killer wallpaper, and set the stage for your success.
Now go finish binge-watching your current faves and have a fabulous Monday!
