Monday Motivation – May 4th, 2015

If there’s one thing about Monday that irks me, it’s the fact that I can’t seem to get going as quickly. It takes longer to choose my outfit, plan our meals, eat my breakfast…I’m just slower on Mondays, which starts my week off sluggishly.

So, this Monday Motivation is all about speed and efficiency and how to get it into gear faster on Monday mornings (or whichever is your sluggish day) to start your week off with a bang.

Prepare, Prepare, Prepare

Planning out as much as you can the night before can really save you time in the morning. It’s advice you’ve heard before – but why is it so difficult to implement? You’d rather watch that next episode of Criminal Minds on Netflix, I understand your plight; but even something as small as laying out a few ensemble choices before you go to bed can really streamline your process and keep you heading to that 8 am meeting on time (or perhaps even early!).

Choose Multitasking Products

This is a fabulous way to kill many birds with one awesome, multitasking stone. For instance, instead of using a primer, three shades of eyeshadow, eyeliner, eyelash primer, and mascara, try using a primer and eyeshadow all-in-one (I love this one by Clinique), a quick swipe of a creamy eyeliner, and a mascara that does it all (love this one). Adding in a few multitasking products can save you serious time and still allow you to look lovely, even if you only have 5 minutes to get ready.

Set A Backup Alarm

This is vital for everyone, whether it’s a normal work day, brunch engagement, or a high-powered business meeting. Setting a backup alarm (or two, if you want to be very sure), saves you the time it takes to scramble around your house / apartment / condo / whatever to put yourself together.

Combine Similar Tasks

Just like you should try multitasking products to save you time, you should double or triple up on tasks that are similar in nature (washing and unloading dishes, for instance) or are close in proximity (i.e., getting lunch at the Subway next to the Post Office where you’ll be getting stamps afterwards). This is an efficient way to get a lot done in not a lot of time, and you’ll surprise even yourself when you’re able to cross everything off your to-do list.

Make A List

Speaking of lists…I’ve mentioned lists before, and if you weren’t into them then, I’m sure I haven’t changed your mind now. But if you are into lists like me, you can save yourself a lot of time and trouble by creating lists to keep you on track and moving along at a wonderful pace. We make lists for the grocery store divided by section (example: produce, dairy, miscellaneous, etc.) so we can divide and conquer or pick up everything we need in each section with ease, and I use Evernote for everything to keep my head on straight for class, work, travel, and play.
