168

168

For the victims and survivors of the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City on April 19th, 1995

we remember lives lost

floor after floor collapsed
brick after brick shattered
splinters of glass and bodies
splintered families

maybe now, there will be liberty
maybe now, there will be justice

we search for truth

grief grows from the roots
the gate hinged forever open
chairs glowing in dusk
across the pool

is there liberty now?
liberty in 168 empty
chairs at dinner

168 senseless graves and death
in veils of cowardice?

twenty years and still time stands
between pain and moving forward

we will not forget
we will always remember
